Back in 2017, I started a short story called “The Murderer of Berlin” for a class I didn’t like, and looking back at it now, I feel that it needs more work. So for this post, I’m going to completely rewrite the story while keeping some of the base details. I’ve given a much better ending than the previous work.

It was a frosty winter morning with cars roaring with frustration. Melony had awoken from the piercing sound of her alarm clock. She opened her steely green eyes to find Amy, Melony’s sister, on top of her like a cat. Confused, she gently pushed her off, pulled the blanket onto her, and went to go get dressed. She wore a wavy red T-shirt, with basic blue jeans. As she barreled out of the front door she got knocked onto the ground. In a daze, she looked around but only saw a blurry figure running away while yelling “sorry!” That was when her best friend Dylan came in to assist her, and with a bit of struggle, he helped her back onto her feet. “Thanks,” she said. “The hell was that guy’s problem?” He angrily said. “Eh, he seems to be in a hurry, it’s fine,” she said. “Well alright, but you be careful, and if you need anything let me know; I’ll see you later, byyyyyyye,” Dylan said.

She hurriedly ran to the nearest metro and awaited for the red line train to arrive. As it arrived she ran to the nearest seat and waited for around 42 minutes to arrive at her stop. She arrived at her job as a terrible assistant for the CEO of a car company. She did the usual, hourly “How may I help you?” with a passive-aggressive mood and finally clocked out after 8.2 hours of a stressful day. She finally walked on out, exhausted, and ran towards the metro.

Again, she waited for the red line train to appear, however, it took much longer than previously anticipated. It finally arrived after 1.7 hours of waiting and she collapsed into a seat and fell asleep. 39 minutes later she awoke from her nap to find that her stop was only 2 stops away. She hastily grabbed her things, stood up, and waited another 5 minutes to arrive at her stop. As the train arrived, she stepped off and stood against the wall for around 2 minutes gathering her thoughts and trying to gain the energy to head on home.

She finally arrived at her block when she sees what looks to be the man that pushed her into a very vulnerable spot. She also happened to see a metal baseball bat not too far away from him. In a tired daze, she grabbed the baseball bat and slammed it against the back of his head, knocking him out instantly with a loud WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANCK. Without even a single thought, she grabbed his body and dragged him to her house where another horror will unfold. She reached her house after about 3 minutes of dragging, unlocked the door, and brought the body in.

Once she got the body in and locked the door, she placed the body in the living room, then proceeded to grab a knife from the kitchen sink, cleaned it, and started cutting. She started by cutting the hands off and then without even a second thought, started eating. After around 52 minutes she managed to eat all the arms and legs and then proceeded to cut his head off. Once the head was off she pierced the skull with the knife and placed it on the TV stand like it was some kind of terrible Halloween decoration. After it was all over, she and the entire living room were covered in blood.

It was around 11 hours after the incident when Dylan thought “I should go see if she is okay, she seemed a bit stressed. She should be done with work about now.” He calmly walked out his front door after sitting on the couch watching the worst movie you could ever see for 3 and a half hours. He unlocked and opened the door of his red convertible with white stripes and proceeded to sit down. He pushed his purple key into the car and proceeded to drive for 4 minutes to Melony’s house. As he arrived at her house, he exited the car and started his journey to the front porch. He approached the front door and knocked but to his surprise there was no answer, however, there was a strange squishing noise. “Melony?” he asked, worried. He remembered that she told him about how she hid a second house key under a beautiful little dog statue by the side of the house. After looking through the windows, yelling her name, and not being able to see anything, he hopped on down to the side of the building and grabbed the key, which was a bit dirty. He finally once again, reached the front door, put the key into the keyhole, and turned the key.

He opened the door, and said with a worried tone “Melony, are you here?” Nothing, not a single peep. He began looking around when he realized that there was liquid all over, so he quickly ran to look for the light switch and turn the lights on. To his horror, he saw blood everywhere. It was like a blood slip-and-slide, it nearly on every surface, and then he saw her. She didn’t even notice him, she was in a daze as she was munching on the guy’s leg. “WHAT THE HELL! ARE YOU OKAY?” He proceeded to exclaim with a scared tone. She didn’t even acknowledge his existence in the room, she just kept munching down. He gathered all of the courage he could, which wasn’t much, and approached Melony, and with a lot of effort, he managed to grab her arm and ask “Melony?” She finally snapped back into reality, and said without any expression “Oh, hello Dylan.”

“What the fuck is going on? Dylan asked. Melony looked a bit confused and asked “What do you mean?” She didn’t seem like herself, it was as if she lost all of her emotions. “I’m full,” she said while getting up. “Who the hell is this anyway?” Dylan asked. “Well it was the guy that pushed me down, I felt a bit snackish on the way home so I decided why not.” The horrified look he had on his face as she said that, it was like he was dreaming. “WHAT! What kind of logic is that! That isn’t even the guy that pushed you, that’s my neighbor Harry! On that note where is Amy? She shouldn’t come near here.” he said trying not to sound like a scared weasel. She said, with no emotion at all, “Well that’s unfortunate” and then proceeded to stare at the wall while ignoring his existence. Every further attempt he tried to get any new information failed as she did not budge. He decided to look around her house to see if he can find any clues about what was going on with her. He first checked Amy’s room to see if she was there, luckily she wasn’t, however, the bedsheet was all messy. He just figured that she didn’t bother to make the bed and decided to head out without cleaning up anything. He would then soon find something that would make him wish he never came to check up on her.

He approached Melony’s bedroom, and once he opened the door, he caught a horrifying glimpse of what was left of Amy. She was laying in her bed, with bites taken out of her, and appeared to be dead for a few days. His mind raced, he didn’t know what to do, and then a small bolt of lightning appeared in his head. He pulled his phone out of the right pocket and proceeded to call 112, and told the operator everything that had happened.

It took around 45 minutes for the police and paramedics to arrive, but she just sat there staring at the wall. She didn’t even acknowledge that anyone entered the house, it wasn’t until one of the officers tried to grab her to get her to the hospital that she started screeching and trying to bite the officer’s face off. It took about 3 officers to finally get her restrained and tied down. Dylan tried to calm her down but she screeched and tried to break out of the restraints. It was no use so they finally hauled her to the ambulance and sent her off to the hospital.

It wasn’t until a few days later that he heard the news that she was sent to a mental institution. She and Amy didn’t have any other family so Dylan and a small group of friends decided to have a funeral for Amy. It was devastating to have all of this happen, she was perfectly fine when they met this morning. The police say that Amy was gone for around 5 days, how could Dylan not have seen it?

Years have passed and Melony has gotten worse and more erratic. Dylan tries to visit as much as possible but she doesn’t appear to notice him much. She has multiple episodes of hysteria most times he tries to see her, and he eventually stops trying. Eventually, she was forgotten and left with nobody.
